Why learn Business English?

Business English is a subset of English. Many people learn English so that they are better able to communicate in a company, with international clients or become an entrepreneur. Students may want to study English because they want to work in areas such as finance, law, politics, marketing and trade.Whatever the reason, a cursory knowledge of English is not necessarily helpful in a business environment.

It will also enable better international cooperation between individuals, companies and countries. This course is geared towards entrepreneurs, established and budding, as well as those working in a corporate environment.

It is important to learn Business English. English is the international language of business, with an estimated 1.7 billion people speaking English for business to some degree. There are approximately 1.5 billion native English speakers in the

United Kingdom, USA, India, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa and other countries in Africa.

Other countries study English as a second language. These include countries in the Middle East, Asia, including China, Vietnam and Japan, and South America.

Chinese languages (Mandarin and Cantonese) were once expected to become more popular than English for conducting business. This is no longer the case.

The belief that China would be the country of the future is because of its previous exponential growth. In 2019, GDP grew at 6.1%, according to a Reuters poll.  However, GDP grew at only 2.3% in 2020, according to figures released in January 2021. This marks the weakest clip since 1976. However, China is the only major economy to have seen GDP growth in 2020.

Nonetheless, the slowing of the Chinese economy, tensions between China and some of the Western countries, and the fact that Westerners find speaking in a tonal language difficult (a tonal language is one in which words can differ in tones -like pitches in music- in addition to consonants and vowels) have combined to put people off learning Chinese.

Hence, using a tonal language for transacting business internationally is not popular and nearly all multinational companies are expected to adopt English as the core international business language. Once the pandemic ends and trading between countries resumes, and as information technology makes communication easier, the use of English is expected to grow,

Therefore, it is a great time to learn Business English, allowing you to transact business in all sorts of business environments.
